Isn't it interesting how readily they would overturn States rights for almost anything except human rights for Aboriginal Australians! --- Trudy ==================================================== Minchin to override state legislation Source: AAP | Published: Wednesday May 17, 4:51 PM The federal government would override any state laws which tried to stop a national nuclear waste store being built, Industry Minister Nick Minchin warned today. The South Australian government today announced that it would introduce legislation to stop the location of a national intermediate level waste storage site in the state. Senator Minchin said a decision was yet to be made on where the intermediate radioactive waste would be stored. 'Whichever state or territory ultimately proves to be the best site for that store, I would expect the cooperation of the relevant government at that time,' Senator Minchin told reporters in Sydney. However, Senator Minchin said the Federal Government was prepared to override state laws. 'If necessary we will override that but...we haven't even begun the search yet, it may not be in South Australia.' The minister accused the SA Labor party of making a political issue of the storage site and said the state government had responded to that pressure. -- ********************************** 'Click' to protect the rainforest: Make the Rainforest Site your homepage! http://www.therainforestsite.com/ ********************************** ------------------------------------------------------ RecOzNet2 has a page @ http://www.green.net.au/recoznet2 and is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/ To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the body of the message, include the words: unsubscribe announce or click here mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20announce This posting is provided to the individual members of this group without permission from the copyright owner for purposes of criticism, comment, scholarship and research under the "fair use" provisions of the Federal copyright laws and it may not be distributed further without permission of the copyright owner, except for "fair use."
