  Protesters at Olympic Dam
  have been criticised

The operator of the Olympic Dam mine in the
state's Far North has condemned protestors
  blockading the mine as "hypocrites".

WMC spokesman, Richard Yeeles, says the
group of around 70 environmental activists had
promised a peaceful protest and their decision
to park eight vehicles across the mine's
  entrance is illegal.

The blockade has forced police to divert traffic
to the mine along an alternative route.

Mr Yeeles says the action will not further the
protestors' push to shut down the mine.

  Aboriginal group has hit
  back at Cabinet minister

The Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement has
accused the state government of dividing
  aboriginal communities by labelling those
opposed to uranium mining as 'dissidents'.

The Natural Resources Minister, Rob Kerin,
says green groups are exploiting Aborigines by
linking up with those opposed to uranium
  mining

But ALRM spokesman, Parry Aguis, says
  Adnyamathanha representatives signed off on
an agreement for the Beverley Uranium Mine as
they have no right of veto .... and wanted to
  protect sacred sites.

He says the South Australian mining act has
given Aboriginal people the right to have a say,
and Mr Kerin should respect it.

"I think the Minister has a responsibility to
Aboriginal poeple that you can have a say, you
can express a view without being penalised
about it, without being judgemental about it."

  Mine protesters want
  certain police to stay away

Protestors at the Olympic Dam Uranium Mine
have called on the Police Department to ban
any officers involved in recent violent clashes at
the Beverley Mine from policing their blockade.

Police have been diverting traffic to the mine
this morning, as protest vehicles block the
  entrance to the site.

Protest leader Kevin Buzzacott, who's calling for
the closure of the mine, says police response to
the blockade is being coordinated by the same
parties under investigation following violence at
  Beverley.

"They shouldn't be here operating. they
should've been disqualified and stood down
because there's an investigation into these
  people from the Beverley incident."
