It's Matthew Davis here, I'm involved in a campaign group
to stop a prison development on sacred and environmentally significant
land at Pyrton, Bassendean, here in Perth. For several months we have
held a community picket on-site, with the co-operation and approval of
the Swan Valley Nyungah Community. It seems that the development
process may begin as early as 14th July, so that is why I am copying out
this leaflet, giving details on where to attend our protest. Please
forward to anyone you think might be interested.

COMMUNITY PICKET TO BLOCK WORK ON FOSS' PYRTON PRISON, BASSENDEAN

!!!VIVA LA BASSENDEAN!!!
Just as the people massed before the Bastille prison fortress on July
14, 1789 to demand the arms within, so too the people of Perth will mass
before Foss' proposed prison at Pyrton, Bassendean to demand a Culture
and Environment Centre instead.
And just as the fall of the Bastille was the culmination of events which
saw the complete capitulation of the King and the court party, so too
the fall of Foss' Pyrton prison will see the complete downfall of Foss'
political career and the Court liberal party.
An effigy of Minister Foss will be guillotined, symbolising his
arrogance and incompetence.
The state government has only agreed to stop work on the proposed prison
until the 14th July. If Senator Hill hasn't made his decision to save
Pyrton by then, we believe the Ministry of Justice will commence work
immediately on Bastille Day.
The community picket will block all attempts to build any prison. Foss'
idea of a prison on Pyrton is a dud use of unique and beautiful
riverland. The community has already determined what is appropriate for
the Pyrton site, that is a Culture and Environment centre for ALL.
