Forwarded from Christine Howes: from the Independent Media Centre list firstly to say the rally time has been finalised for 10am 15th sept. the main demands are 1. treaty and real land rights 2. apology and compensation for the stolen generation 3. no mandatory sentencing 4. fund social justice not the olympics meeting at the tent embassy in victoria park. this rally has been endorsed by the aboriginal tent embassy, the tent city (something trevor close in involved in) the indigenous social justice association, the indigenous students network and the anti-olympic alliance. other indigenous groups joining with the tent embassy over the period leading up until the 15th include (i think) kevin buzzacott who has been taking part in the walk from lake eyre to sydney, and gary foley who is travelling with another indigenous group up from melbourne. there are many others but i'm not sure of all the details. the rally mtg on the 15th will then probably split with some either marching all the way to homebush stadium (around a 10km walk) and others heading to strathfield station to meet up with the rest there at 4pm to them march to a park in the homebush area. there are many things still up in the air: for eg: trevor close is attempting to seek permission for a tent city type thing to be existing already in a park in the homebush area by this date but negotiations with SOCOG at this stage have been unsuccessful i think. the Anti-olympics alliance has organised a poster to be printed which will be back from the printers on fri of this week and will be posted out to campuses including those interstate ones who express interest.
