To let you know that Iona Singleton of Survival International and I appeared on
Channel East/Sky TV digital breakfast show in London this morning on the main feature
slot, devoted to Aboriginal/indigenous issues in the context of the olympics.
I hope we will get a tape but on the Aboriginal side the following points were touched
on:
terra nullius, native title and 1998 amendments; new legislation enabling use of
troops; UN criticisms on native title; Aboriginal life expectancy compared to white
Australians and Maoris; lack of a treaty; Australian High Commission refusal to come
on the programme; Aboriginal protests at the Olympics and Lowitja O'Donoghue's
statement that Aboriginal people would not start any violence .
Thanks for the material Trudy
Sue
