I can only answer one of those many questions: Hot linking

You can easily intecept the connection-creation at serverside to do
some hot-linking prevention. For example: you create customizes URL
for your VOD files, which contain an encrypted timestamp (to ensure a
limited lifetime of the  link). And when flashplyer tries to connect
to red5 server with such customized URL, your red5 serverextension
would decrypt and validate that timestamp and only connect, if that
was successful.
