you can also do server side processing with ffmpeg, if video codec is
h263+,  but if I remember properly, Steven Gong mentioned that he had
coded a yet uncomitted red5 function which extracts keyframes, which
can be used like images (e.g. for thumbnails), but in reality are FLV
files ...
