A subject I've been researching a bit lately.
The flv playback component in flash 8 does not work with red5. I'm not totally sure why, it might be something to do with the bw check it does. Anyhow, the flvplayer by peldi does work now since I have added getStreamLength and a call to onBWDone. However there is still one bug, which might be the problem in flash 8 flv player (which is built on the peldi code). Sometimes the stream plays ( you get sound ) but you dont see the video. What happens is for some reason the onMetaData does not fire, or fires too fast and the player if left unaware of the size of the video. This is not a problem when I build my own players though which is odd. Perhaps the stream starts too fast for the ui. Its only a problem when the client is on the same machine as the server. If its over a network its fine.
Im still interested in getting the bog standard flash 8 flv player working, and will keep trying things, but really the solution is to create our own kick ass player. There are loads of little tricks we can do to improve the experience. Like switching bitrates, buffer ticks, optimizing seeking while dragging etc.

that works fine with the FLV streaming capabilities of Red5 0.5?
