I'm reminded right now of the movie "Mr Holland's Opus" and how lights were applied there to help a deaf person appreciate music.
Or as a teaching tool, how certain piano (think keyboard) keys light up in sequence to teach you a song. If the drum sequence for a song was recorded, it would simply be a matter of following along.
