I thought that Red5 uses Jetty instead of Tomcat. I can see that there are some tomcat files in the /lib directory. The strange thing is that the google search you link to has lots of postings about jvm using 100% cpu and becoming unresponsive. In my case red5 keeps on ticking (streaming) but uses all availbale cycles. This has beeing going on from my very first uses of red5 prior to the .5 release. I don't know if it's my java installation or something specific to do with Red5.
Thanks,
Sean
Isn't this a problem with Tomcat?

sorry Sean, I haven't seen this happen with the Red5/Java.exe.

However, based on you description, Chris Allen might have had a similar experience with the wedding Kiosk application
Chris, is this what was happening to you?
