Oops, sorry about that I forgot the comma in my command play(streamName, -2, -1, true). The syntax I'm using there is the full syntax for the play command. The first parameter is obviously the stream name to play. The second is the start parameter. A -2 will first try to play a live stream, if that fails it will play a VOD stream, and if that fails it will wait for a live stream to begin. The third parameter is the length of the material to play and a -1 value will play until there is nothing left to play. The final parameter is used for creating dynamic playlists with FMS so I'm not sure if it's implemented in Red5 but the default value is true. I've always passed all the parameters as shown above even though most are default values simply because it's easier for me to make changes to my code.

Hope that helps out a bit.

Hi, sorry it took me a while to test things, your example just gave me an error

so i tried

play(streamName, -2 -1, true)

it started playing but then just hanged.

07:52:47.625 [INFO] Subscriber Playback Started
07:52:48.140 [DEBUG] Subscriber Buffer Length: 0.001Buffer Time: 10
07:52:48.640 [DEBUG] Subscriber Buffer Length: 0.266Buffer Time: 10
07:52:48.671 [INFO] Subscriber Playback Stopped
07:52:48.671 [INFO] Subscriber Playback Started

can someone tell me what the proper way to initiate a VOD stream to my understanding its this

play(streamName, 1)

as it gets the streamnotfound message perfect but no metadata sent !

please advise.

I just quickly modified my test code to do play(streamName -2 -1, true) and I was still able to receive the onMetaData events. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying though.

hi there still seems to be an issue getting metadata sent when playing in VOD mode. i have to keep the player in live streaming mode play(name); to get the metadata sending, but then it doesnt know or wont be able to tell if the file is missing or not so it just sits there and buffers.

any ideas ?
