ahh the perfect storm.  From that point on its all about what little social skills us programmers have and a bit of luck, and taking chances.  My father always told me you make your own luck.

If your passionate, find other passionate people and build great things!

ahh, my only hope is that my children have the passion to create the "cow shit" program too.

terrible OFF-TOPIC:

What about a guy with a degree and the passion who has been programming since 5?

My very first program (translated):
10 print "cow shit"
20 goto 10
run

now that were telling confessions.. I wasn't a computer science major.  The thing is my last year of college I realized my obsessive, compulsive relationship with programming.  I took some courses and I noticed that the guys who were actually in the field didn't have the same passion.  It bothered me, but I guess that's why companies would rather hire some 15 year old kid who's been programming since 5, than some guy who's got his degree but hasn't a clue on whats going on in the industry..

Nowadays, I spend upward of 16 hours a day learning, programming and what not, preparing for the day an opportunity knocks at my door.
