This is a missing feature that’s preventing us from large-scale deployment.  Hopefully it can make it in by 1.0.  While Geotargeting is nice, I’m not sure that functionality needs to live in Red5.  More important is the ability to forward streams to other servers (master/proxy like system) that those deploying can work with.

Our individual situation is that we need the ability to stream live broadcasts out to thousands of clients.  Sheer bandwidth requirements impose the need for multiple datacenters (or at least pipes)… and of course multiple servers.  Something like this is what we’d like to deploy on Red5:

Broadcast station -> Red5 Master -> Pool of Red5 Proxies.

AFAIK, it’s customary that another piece of software/equipment intelligently routes clients to the best proxy (ala Geotargeting, loadbalancing, whatever the need is).

I didn’t see anything about this in the roadmap, are there plans for this type of master/proxy functionality?

Best regards, Jason

Subject: Re: [Red5] red5 to red5 streaming

you are talking about proxying for geo targeting correct, like the FMS edge system ? so one server and "edge" collects its stream from either the cache or the "origin" server ?

thats what we'd like

our server resources proved not enough for 200MB+ streams in red5, i had to fallback to progressive download while the problem is solved. Our current windows media setup is two servers loading content from a content sevrer over the lan. We'll prob integrate the current machine into this , so 3 red5 machines loading content from a content server accessed via a load balancer hardware. Two of the machines will still be running windows media though.

yes i think clustering is not implemented yet...

i actually don't need clustering but "stream forwarding". flash client
sends netstream to red5 and then red5 forwards this stream to some
other red5 server.
is this possible? if not, any idea when this will be possible?
