Hi Dan, Yeah, I'm experiencing this exact same problem on the 0.5 release, and the 0.6rc1. I've submitted the issue to the JIRA at:

Yes it seems default it tries to play the archive first, and because the playback finished before the archive was keeping up it stopped. when i do play(thestream, -1) it just hangs there waiting for the stream to become available so doesnt work at all. "The default value for start is -2, which means that Flash first tries to play the live stream specified in name. If a live stream of that name is not found, Flash plays the recorded stream specified in name. If neither a live nor a recorded stream is found, Flash opens a live stream named name, even though no one is publishing on it.
