Thanks for the info Michael. I now see the actionscript code corresponding to 
the components, and I can also open up and view the client-side UI objects in 
Flash 8 Pro. 
However, I guess I'm still not understanding how to tell Flash 8 to use my 
external ".as" file for that UI object, i.e. how can I create the link between 
my graphics objects and the external actionscript file?
