No, my system prepares a file for VOD. There is going to be a live portion (my aim is that to the client end it doesn't matter whether it's a live or pre-recorded session), but other client-billable stuff's come up so it's taken a back burner for a couple days :)
I don't think it's due to lack of metadata, most servers doing live broadcasts don't bother keeping the packets after they're sent to the clients.
