Hi,

This is my first post to this list, although I have been “lurking” for some
weeks/months now. Ever since I discovered the Red5 project, we boot-kicked
Flash Media Server and started working with Red5 without any problems. Only
thing that I missed was the administrator panel where I can see how many people
are online, but as I read the docs I also saw that this is something that is in
development. If I read it right ☺

Anyway, to my question. I saw Wowza mentioned here and decided to take a look
at their site. I just got curious as to what others had to offer (as if I am
planning to switch to any other flash streaming server, yeah right ☺ ) and what
their prices are. Although FMS is ridiculous in their license program (to be
able to offer unlimited connections and unlimited bandwidth you’d need to be
owner of Microsoft I suppose) Wowza isn’t cheap either. With prices at 5000$
for an unlimited license. Don’t get me wrong, those people probably have
invested a lot of money in their project and need to get some money back. It
just is a lot of money. Although, all things considered still way cheaper then
FMS by Adobe.

That made me wonder; when Red5 is finished, will it remain open source and free
of charge? (except for the voluntary contribution to the project of course) Or
will there be a license fee at some point? And if there are plans to put a
license fee on Red5, are there any views on the costs of such a license?

Just wondering.

Cheers,

Alex.
