Arsenal defender Martin Keown claimed there was nothing "malicious" in his
tussle with Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Football Association have already promised to investigate Keown's push
on the Manchester United striker.

But in a statement released by Arsenal, he said: "Ruud was standing on my
foot so I just pushed him away with my hand in an attempt to free myself.

"It certainly wasn't malicious. My only intention was to get him off me.

"I have apologised to the boss for getting myself involved in that kind of
situation but I have to say that I would be sorely disappointed if the FA
take this matter further as I felt it was just a minor incident."
