Anyone doubting Roy Keane's future should perhaps review their
evaluation of the Irishman's abilities.

ManUtd.com has uncovered statistics that suggest Roy Keane is still very
much on top of his game.
Despite having his season heavily disrupted by a career-threatening hip
injury, Roy returned to something like his best in the final few weeks
of the season.

Keane's ability to break up opposition attacks and spark counters for
United is one of his greatest attributes. Yet even in a season where he
is considered not to have come close to his best form, the United
skipper has excelled.

Keane was crucial to United's exemplary defence record with 71% of his
tackles being successful. However, it is his amazing passing accuracy
that makes him stand head and shoulders above the rest. No other
Premiership midfielder bettered Keane's passing accuracy of 89%.

The United captain has the best record in all three areas of the field
as well. 94% of his defensive passes found their mark, while only 8% of
his passes in the centre of the park went astray. And in attack Keane
was just as deadly - 80% of his passes reached their intended target.

Whilst statistics can be overplayed and over-analysed, these figures
clearly show Keane's importance in Fergie's side.

Roy will be looking forward to a full summer of rest before returning to
captain United next season - something many of his harshest critics
thought he would never achieve.

Keane was barracked in some quarters for his lacklustre performances
after returning from hip surgery late in December last year, and the
Irishman never really showed his true potential arguably until April and
May.

But Keane himself has acknowledged that it took five months to fully
recover from his knee ligament injury picked up in the infamous tussle
with Alf Inge Haaland in 1997/98. So, it came as no surprise then that,
after an injury that threatens to cause him so many problems later on in
life - a hip replacement at the age of 45 isn't an unrealistic
proposition - it would take him four months to show signs of getting
back to his best.

The statistics back it up, but anybody who saw some of Keane's
performances at first hand in April and May will know his United career
is far from over.
