Record-breaking striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has pledged to throw a protective arm around Cristiano Ronaldo as the youngster tries to build on his sensational start at Manchester United.
For once, van Nistelrooy did not capture the headlines on Saturday even though his late goal in the 4-0 opening-day romp over Bolton set two new scoring records. Instead, Ronaldo's amazing 30-minute cameo grabbed the attention, with the 18-year-old's two-footed dribbling skills likened to that of George Best. The clamour is mounting for Sir Alex Ferguson to include the 12.2million teenager in his side for the crunch encounter with Newcastle at St James' Park, although van Nistelrooy, while equally amazed at Ronaldo's display, has sounded a note of caution. "It was a fantastic debut, he wasn't frightened at all. He just came on the pitch and showed what he is about," said the Dutch striker. "He is obviously a great talent and as players, we want to help him keep it going. "But we have to remember he is still young and we have to be careful. "We have to help him and guide him through the Premiership because a player with his qualities is always worth that." ----------------------------------------- Email provided by http://www.ntlhome.com/ ------------------------ Yahoo!
