We have recently done this for one of our clients.
We have a custom "style" that is given as an optyion in the text-
editor dropdown. To assign it to the table, they highlight the table,
check the <div> check box, and then selct that style from the
dropdown. This adds a div around the table with the class name that
they chose. In our main CSS files we style this table off the div:
div.styledTable table {
etc.
}
We were able to even change the JavaScript to add the "zebrastripe" by
searching the dom for that div and then altering the tr tags within
it.
Please note: I have only done this with the RedDot Text editor in IE,
not the FCKEditor.
