It depends on alot of factors, for example.. - How many content elements are you pulling in from the pages connected to the list - How much pre-execute code you have on the page that contains the list for example if you are doing any kind of processing on content transfered through the list
And as one poster already mentioned more items on a list means the longer it takes smartTree to render when you expand the list.
