Hi Prasanth,

Thank you very much for the reply. It definitely gives insight into LS cluster
operation.I can find some info in Users_Administration Document also.

I had Cluster installation experience previously with MS Sql 2005. Never
installed cluster on web servers or application servers. Is there any document
where i can get the detailed configuration steps for Load Balancing of
LiveServer.

Or Is it that easy there is no need for documentation to do that. If its second
way then i can definitely do some googling and try out.

Thanks,
Regards,
Swapna.

  Hi Swapna,

Ø Clustered installation doesn’t have separate licenses for installation in
cluster environment. You would just have your individual LS licenses, and each
LS pointing to the same Database instance, and additional configs for them to
operate in clustered mode. You have some additional info on how the clustered
mode operates in Live Server Users_Administration document apart from LS
installation document.

Ø Regarding your question about both LS instances on different IP having a
common IP for external world, this is achieved through load balancer operating
in front of the clustered LS instances.

In standard Architecture, you would have the following in that order from End
user to backend Datastore.

  1) Load Balancer

  2) 2 or more Web Servers behind the load balancer configured, and
connecting with backend Live Servers (using mod_proxy_ajp or mod_jk in case of
Apache)

  3) 2 or more Live Servers in clustered mode

  4) Common database instance for clustered LS instances

So in your case, you need a load balancer in front of your
clustered LS instances.

Ø I wasn’t able to understand your question about database servers. As you
would be pointing to the same Database instance, I am not sure why you were
having two database servers in this context.

  Thanks,

  Prasanth

  Subject: [reddot] LiveServer Cluster Operation

  Hi,

Is there any document on LiveServer Installation in Cluster Environment.

We have 2 independent licences for LiveServer. I installed liveserver(MySQL
DB) on one system. Then while setting up LiveServer on the second system i
selected the config.xml,dbsettings.ksf,dbsettings.ksf.properties and
dbsettings.ksf.asn from the first installation. Then it asked me to restart
tomcat.

Once i restarted the tomcat, i could get the login page. Now my doubt is, i
Can't understand how cluster works here. Generally cluster systems have their
own individual IP but to the outside world they have a single IP. We make calls
to this single IP address and depending on the availability one of them
responds. But here i cant find the single IP info.

Other thing being Databases are shared in cluster but, herei could see
RDEUSER and RDEMASTER databases on both the database servers. The second one is
using the db logins of the first system.

Is there any documentation for Cluster Operation.Atleast from OT site. Do we
need seperate licences for installation in Cluster Environment. Anyhelp would
be thankful.

  Regards,

  Swapna.
