Using databases for project setup and import/export across projects or environments is certainly a gray area and Open Text wont provide any support if you do so. Its do-able if you are ready to do without support though I have seen multiple projects doing that and i really had no issue doing that.
Don't know about what would happen when CMS is upgraded to higher version and I really did not know that its CMS version dependent/ specific and still am not very clear about that point. I would really appreciate if you guys could shed some more light on that point. I agree with point that inbuilt Import/Export functionality is the best way of moving or storing projects and also its recommended by Open Text. I am looking forward to hear more from you guys around database being bependent on CMS version.
