Since lists can pull in elements from another page, you could create a new element within each page that is used to specifiy the category for the page (if announcements, press releases and open houses are created from separate templates, you can preassign a value for each of these pages types within the template). You just need to make sure that the name of each element is the same across all separate templates in this case..
The using some preexecuting script/code, you can check for the value of the element within each page and then output the page link to correct area on the homepage. You could also use this approach using automatically assigned keywords... checking for a specific keyword assigned to each page will enable you to output the pages to the correct areas. There are plenty of other ways to do this (Render Tags would work too) if you get stuck with the above.
