Do you allow your users to connect pages in the nav manager? I did this at first and came across a bunch of issues, mainly memory related. I think it's more secure to have them attach pages to a list in SmartEdit rather than directly in the nav manager. Also you can limit the choice of content classes by using a list. As far as connecting existing pages, there are some complicated workarounds, but basically pages can only be connected once in nav manager. Probably the easiest workaround is to create a dynamic anchor on the master page, appended to the rendered navigation list in the open ul. Users can reference existing pages onto these anchors.
