Hi All,

We are using OT Delivery Server's verity search engine for indexing and
searching abt upto 2.5L xml documents.

We have a date tag in our xml file in the format <date>YYYY/MM/DD
HH:MM:SS</date>
I indexed the date tag as a field with small modifications to style files.

Now I am getting inconsistent search results:

Like when i have max hits as 1000 and 20000,
hit 200 when maxhits = 1000 comes as hit 2800 when maxhits = 20000. So
maxhits =1000 is missing abt 90% of the docs in search results.

I am ordering the search results using *date *field in *descending *order.I
am not using *score *to arrange results. I am running the search query date
< today.

Whenever the maxhits is increased , New search results come up. So actually
I am getting more accurate results increasing the maxhits parameter. I have
been trying to understand why this is happening but can't get to any logical
explanation why this is happening.

My assumption is that search results must be independent of maxhits. When
ever maxhits is increased newly coming hits must be appended to the results
obtained for a lesser maxhits number. Moreover i am not ordering them by
score. So my assumption must be correct.

Currently a temporary solution would be to increase maxhits but keep the
chunksize less. But it will have heavy load on the system everytime a search
query is run.

I thought it may be some issue from Delivery Server side but even the
command prompt search with tools provided by verity also show me
inconsistent results.

Can you please reply what could have happened. Any suggestion also would be
extremely thankful.

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Rakesh Kumar J.
