Tiffany, This was a known bug in the text editor in one of the versions - 7.5.91 if I remember correctly (or .103). I'd check with support and consider upgrading to the next 7.5.x release if you're still using a 7.x version. If not - it could be just some random weirdness.
I've also had authors copy and paste URLs from the browser in CMS to their text - thinking that would make a link - when they were just learning.
