HI Peter, The default publishing time out set in CMS is 30 sec. However to transfer large files like pdfs, videos it is recommended to increase this value to 300 sec. See the CMS help text below:
"RedDot LiveServer connection timeout in seconds - Lets you specify a value in seconds for the interval available to transfer a file to RedDot LiveServer and process it there. If no value is specified, this interval is 30 seconds. To transfer large files (for example, PDFs or images), we recommend setting the value to at least 300 seconds. " You can find this setting in Administer Publication -> Project and Edit General settings from Action menu. With in that you can find this setting as "RedDot LiveServer connection timeout in seconds " Hope this helps.
