That sounds like a possible workaround: create a 'root' folder above
all our existing image folders (which are in a flat structure), change
them all over from database storage to filesystem storage, and set
that new top-level folder as the target for 'global' image
placeholders. Presumably, that would then let me select from/upload to
any of the sub-directories, as well as the parent directory.
