I am pretty sure it is like going to your girlfriend's home for Thanksgiving
for the first time and chagrinned to realize her connection to her step parents
is largely perfunctory.

Big brother OpenLinks, after changing his name to ECM, makes a speech while
disecting a fat turkey and ritually high fiving his fraternity and bowling
alley buddies -- Microsoft and sap, to name a few.

Sadly, no stranger would even bother to make a pass at your girlfriend --
except maybe a few old timers regaling the lovely annecdotes of the
cheerleading yesteryears of your girlfriend's youth.

The last time I was there I was embarrassed to be seen with the 'girlfriend'
and hung out instead with OpenLinks. After a few sessions and some extremely
full meals, I started fooling around with OpenLinks and subsequently became a
self-taught Links API developer.

The betrayal did not take place without a ton of guilt on my conscience;
thankfully, OpenText was generous enough to kick back a few bucks out of the
few grands they charged in the utterly redeeming form of an open bar.

So have yourself a great time Marcus. As your famous namesake put it, 'in the
life of a man, his time is but a moment'. Carpe diem and enjoy it.
