Actually, Jeff Stine replied to this post and provided a shorter
method.

<%!! Context:CurrentPage.Id.ToString(N).ToUpper() !!%>

It is also mentioned that page ID (number) is available in 10.1 via

<%!! Context:CurrentPage.PageID !!%>

But I can't get the second rendertag to work.
