Hi there,

After wading thru countless mailing lists, newsgroups etc (places where I can usually find my answer), I cannot find a solution to the problem of accessing a MS winsock proxy server using Linux. Unfortunately, I don't have any say at work as to what type of proxy server we do use, and as my bosses are 1000kms away (which is where the proxy server is), it makes it a little harder to convince them to change to a generic proxy server. So I'm stuck with this stupid MS winsock proxy that is designed exclusively for windows.

If anyone knows of a solution to this problem that it looks like many people have, please let me know so I can once again have access to the internet thru linux!! I have to run windows in vmware at the moment to get around the prob, and that works ok but its a little bit sluggish.

Do you think it would be possible to write a hack for the linux TCP/IP stack so that it had the option of communicating with a MS winsock proxy server? If anyone out there is looking for a bit of a project to work and wants to stick it up microsoft, see if you can modify the tcp/ip stack to work with ms proxy!! And then let me know when you have it working....

Adam.
