Assuming you already have a clean 2.0.33 kernel in /usr/src, do the following:

# cd /usr/src
# gzip -dc patch-2.0.34pre14.gz | patch -p0 -s

The only output would be a patch failure.  No news is good news.

Then use "make distclean" to clean up the source directory of any old patch
files.  Then proceed to compile your kernel as normal.
