As an aside...
1. How stable is the kernel > 2.1.97?
2. How do I upgrade my kernel? Do I simply download the patch and try
to patch it in or do I download the entire kernel? What do I do about
the messages saying the kernel doesn't recognize stuff on
modules/whatever.o?
