3 different machines, 3 different sets of errors. This SUCKS! Ok,
first machine, fresh install of RH 5, and decided to upgrade the
kernel (to 2.0.33). I downloaded the full kernel from
linux.kernel.org, put it in /usr/src, and did the following:

tar zxvf linux-kernel-2.0.33.tar.gz (cant remember the file name)
cd linux
make menuconfig
(changed the settings to suit my needs and saved)
make dep (all ok)
make clean (ok here too)
make zImage gets almost all the way through and errors out. I cannot
remember the error message (anywhere I can find it w/o recompiling)
but considering this happened on 3 diff machines it seems to be user
error.

On my home machine here, I got up to 2.0.33 just fine, then I tried
the fat32 patch, which seemed to install correctly, but when I went
through to do the make zImage, it errored out with joliet.o already
defined here blah blah. well, I then removed the patch, tried to
recompile, still errored out. Then I decided to just redownload the
kernel source, untar it, and recompile; no luck. I also tried
2.0.34prepatch somewhere in there but that was way after the previous
messages.

Now am I just completly stupid or what? I mean, I thought a kernel
recompile would go just fine, I had done it a dozen times on my 4.2
machine, but why not here? ARRGH! I just want this thing to work!
Thanks for anyone that responds..

    Bryan
