I have just completed an upgrade from RedHat 4.2 to RedHat 5.0. I then
proceeded to apply all of the security related package upgrades. These
included
Xconfigurator-3.26-1
XFree86-3.3.2-14
XFree86-libs-3.3.2-14
The documentation associated with these patches indicated that I should then
either
upgrade the XFree86 server
or
chmod u-s /usr/X11R6/bin/X*
I chose the latter figuring it was the easiest, but then startx wouldn't
work and some of the output indicated that it needed to run as root. So I
reset the setuid bit and decided to upgrade the server.
I went to the XFree86 site and downloaded and applied patch 2 for 3.3.2
(X3322upd). Now startx fails with the following output:
xinit: error in loading shared libraries
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6: undefined symbol: _Xglobal_lock
Same thing with emacs (i.e., emacs: error in loading shared libraries).
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Rick.
