I've installed Red Hat 5.0 on three supposedly identical; Gateway Pentium 100 computers, each with 1.2g HD, Mach64 video, 16mb ram, vivitron15 monitor.... One system it worked flawlessly... (32mb swap) One system it tends to just freeze xwindows (only difference is I gave 64mb swap) and the last system... both the login screen and Xwindows comes up without the solid color background *most* of the time. Sometimes it works right, but when it doesn't, it doesn't refresh the background so everything is overwritten and impossible to read in graphics mode. I've compared the /etc/X11/XF86Config files and they are identical. I've swaped video cards and the problem stays the same. I am going to try swapping other parts, but my guess it it's going to stay the same. I've also tried installing several of the rpms available. ANY CLUE!??!? Anyone see this before!? Thanks!
