I thought I knew it all about cron, so didn't pay attention to the recent
thread on the subject. :-) Please excuse me if this question was asked and
answerd.

I would like to know the relationship between the /etc/crontab and
/var/spool/cron/root files. Specifically, I would like to know the
following:

Should system cron jobs go in /etc/crontab or should `crontab -e' be used
to write them to /var/spool/cron/root?

How do I modify /etc/crontab (I.E. change times for some of the jobs) and
make crond read /etc/crontab? Do I just edit it manually and send a HUP
to crond or can I use crontab to do it? I tried `crontab /etc/crontab',
but it just wrote the contents of /etc/crontab to /var/spool/cron/root.

Thanks,

Trevor
