xfree86 knows or cares not about 3d cards (at least not yet). for
quake, you'll need to search around for glquake for linux. i've used
it, but don't have the URL at hand. a web search should turn it up
somewhere at threewave.planetquake.com. the readme files it comes
with should tell you what else you'll need and need to do like grab
the latest mesa and glide libraries. i got it all working on a
friend's machine a while back and became quite jealous as a result.
