Using IP Masquerading (part of firewalling) you can have the Linux machine
connect to the Internet via PPP, or via Ethernet if you're on LAN that is
connected to the Intenet.

You essentially have two connections to make:
1) Linux machine to Internet.
* a) Option: PPP via Modem
   b) Option: Network Connection (Ethernet, Token Ring, etc)

2) Win95 Laptop to Linux machine.
   a) Option: PPP via Modem
* b) Option: PPP via serial cable (I'm told this is possible)
   c) Option: Network Connection (Ethernet, Token Ring, etc)

Obviously, if you have to have the hardware to support both connections at
the same time. I've done sort of the same thing at my house. I bought a
$50 ethernet hub and ethernet cards for my Mac laptop and the Linux
machine. I establish a PPP connection via modem to my IPS from the Linux
box.

I hope this helps.
