Hello.

I'm thinking of building a rpm for xfmail 1.3 (final release), but I'm not
ensure how to exactly go about doing it. I've read the RPM HOWTO and man rpm,
but there ain't much examples on the specs settings and other details there. In
particular, I'd like to know:

1. Is it possible to build a binary rpm from compiled binaries instead of the
complete source code?

2. Must the Source: in the specs refer to a .tgz file or a ftp link? Can it
refer to the decompressed source code on the hard disk instead? In that case,
do I just specify the directory in the Source: ?

3. Is it a must to have a diff file before building the rpm? Can I run
./configure under %build instead?

4. Can I do a strip under %install or %build? I've noticed that by doing a
strip, I'm able to reduce the size of the compiled binary from 2 M to 700+ K.

5. How can I be sure that I'm not defying any copyright laws when I build a
rpm? Are there any special guidelines? In the Copyright file for xfmail, the
author stated that the sotware can be freely distributed for non-commercial
purposes. Can I then specify "Copyright: distributable" in the spec file?

Thanx in advance !!
