Of course you get 0 files when it is not mounted. If you type :

mount

you'll get all mounted filesystems, and if you look, it won't list you
CD-ROM>

I hate those garphical tool. Always do it from commandline if your new to
this. Then use a graphical tool

Try mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
