Folks: I'm having a problem with logins on a 4.2 (and 5.1 test) machine that have large password files. The password file is about 50,000 lines long. People near the top of the file get logged in very quickly, while those at the bottom can take up to 10 seconds to get in (those who telnet in even have to wait for a Password prompt if they are at the bottom of the file while those near the top get a prompt right away...) I'm referring to logins via telnet and via ftp. I'm running shadow passwords if that has any bearing on the situation. Are there any mods to pam or other config files to look at to speed up the authentication? Any type of db implemenation for /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow to take a look at? Any thoughts on the subject are greatly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aaron Holtz First Network Group "The First Name in Internetworking" Manager, UNIX Systems Admin Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard." -JFK ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
