just one more detail (should've done this to start with):
it returns the following error:
Connection to database 'template1' failed.
PQexec() -- Request was sent to backend, but backend closed the channel before
responding. This probably means the backend terminated abnormally
before or while processing the request.
if i specify a particular database, you can substitute
the database name for 'template1'.
