I don't know. I don't consider it broken and ...
You can set the path in the system wide session files sourced by most
shells.
If it's a non standard shell that burns your hide you can pull the
source and compile whatever default path you care to.
If you don't have a compiler, the . is the last path element, you
could patch the login binary to drop that element.
