Is it a 1000 or a 1000a? It is my understanding that Linux will not run
on the "A" servers. All of my Alpha 1000s are the A's.

Subject: AlphaServer 1000 4/266
Has anybody installed 5.0 on an AlphaServer 1000 4/266?
I finally got the right kernel images from the DEC FTP site, can
boot the floppies, but have a problem mounting the root filesystem.
Linux kernel panics when trying to mount /dev/fd0.
I mount from the DEC UNIX prompt with:
>>> boot dva0 -fl i
at the 'aboot> ' prompt I type:
aboot> vmlinux.gz root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1
It probes all the devices and works all the way to where I kernel
panic trying to mount FS.
Any ideas or experiences are appreciated...
