Avoid using the 'z' flag when doing backups.  Reason: if tar hits an error
when extracting that archive, everything past the error in a compressed
archive is lost to you.  The newer versions of FTAPE (3.0x +) have
compression built in that's apparently a lot safer.

I learned this one the hard way, and our fileserver was down for three
days while I picked up the pieces.  OTOH, that was what finally moved me
from Slackware to RedHat, so it wasn't all a bad thing... =)
