Hi.

If you just want secure login there's SSH [1] and SRP [2], among 
others.

If your need for "transmission of sensitive data" is sufficiently 
flexible, you may want to look at RedHat's new Secure Webserver 
product [3] - it's an SSL module for Apache that's only $99 ..

If you're looking to encrypt all traffic between the boxes, check 
out the Linux FreeS/WAN project [4], Olaf Titz's CIPE [5], or 
Aventail's (Commercial) VPN product [6].
