In light of all the permutations that have been attempted this is
smelling strongly of a fubar drive.  Has it been proven to work 
under any other conditions/configurations?  We've installed dozens of
these things (thanks to the Iomega marketing push.  :-) and they "just
work" without all this hassle.  You've tried everything reasonable, 
I'd consider an RMA for repair.
